COVID Response

The Vanguard Academy will follow these Department of Health and Inter-Agency Task Force recommendations for the return work and classes onsite.

Those who have any one or more of these symptoms must stay home and quarantine to prevent the spread of the infection in the school:

  • Feeling feverish or having a temperature of 37.5 or higher
  • Cough
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

We will send regular and frequent reminders to all about monitoring their health status.

(If a student or employee has allergic rhinitis, with symptoms of cough and/or cold, he or she must present an updated medical certificate to the school nurse.)

Being in the same space, less than 6 feet apart, while the positive case and exposed person are both without a mask, for more than 15 minutes is considered close contact.

  • Those who had no contact or indirect contact and are asymptomatic may go to school for onsite work and classes.
  • Those who were in close contact, are asymptomatic, and are fully vaccinated may go to school for onsite work and classes.
  • Those who were in close contact, are asymptomatic, and are partially or not vaccinated must quarantine for 14 days, starting on the first day of contact.

Teachers will contact parents and guardians to confirm whether their children had no contact, indirect contact, or close contact with confirmed positive cases.

Those who have any one or more of the symptoms listed above or test positive for COVID-19 must stay home and quarantine as recommended by the Department of Health and Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF):

Fully Vaccinated

  • Asymptomatic - 7 days quarantine
  • Symptomatic (mild) - 7 days quarantine
  • Symptomatic (moderate) - 10 days quarantine
  • Symptomatic (severe) - 21 days quarantine

Partially or Not Vaccinated

  • Asymptomatic - 10 days quarantine
  • Symptomatic (mild) - 10 days quarantine
  • Symptomatic (moderate) - 10 days quarantine
  • Symptomatic (severe) - 21 days quarantine

To further protect everyone at school, we will strictly enforce the following Department of Health recommended protocols: Symptoms of COVID-19 (developed while at school).

  • In case a student or school personnel is observed to have or develop any one or more of the symptoms listed above during the school day, the student’s case manager will inform the school nurse and administrators immediately. The school personnel or his or her immediate colleague or supervisor will inform the school nurse and administrators immediately as well.
  • The school nurse will determine whether the student or school personnel must go home immediately.

Contact Tracing

  • If a student, school personnel, or any of their household members have tested positive for COVID-19, the student’s case manager, school nurse, and administrators must be informed immediately. The school’s COVID-19 Management Team will then begin contact tracing.
  • The school will honor every individual’s right to privacy and confidentiality, especially during the process of contact tracing. We ask for everyone’s cooperation and support, particularly with not identifying the suspect or confirmed cases in forums such as Viber group chats and social media.

Rapid Antigen Tests

  • School personnel will be randomly tested. Those who test positive will be asked to go home as soon as possible.
  • The school strongly encourages families to regularly test their children and share the results with their case managers, school nurses, and/or administrators.

Face Masks

  • Everyone at school must continue to wear fresh, clean face masks (N95, KN95, and KF94 masks that securely fit and completely cover the mouth and nose only, NOT ordinary surgical masks or cloth masks) throughout the school day. All must bring extra face masks to replace used ones at least once during the school day.

Sanitation

  • The use of alcohol for hand sanitation and frequent handwashing with soap and water will continue to be required for all who are at school.
  • The school’s maintenance team will continue to keep the school facilities clean and sanitized.

Family Members, Caregivers, and Drivers

  • The school will no longer allow family members, caregivers, and/or family drivers to wait in the school compound.

Cancellation of F2F Classes

  • The school’s Leadership Team will review each confirmed and suspected case of direct and indirect exposure to COVID-19 and will determine on a case-by-case basis for sending home and requiring quarantine for these groups:
      • One individual
        • Teachers and students from one class
          • Teachers, students, and other school personnel from the entire floor/school section
            • All teachers, students, and other school personnel
  • The school will always err on the side of caution.

We are committed to our goal to keep all our school community members safe and healthy. Please continue to keep the lines of communication open. Everyone’s commitment to the same goal will surely be for everyone’s benefit and good health.
