My Abilities Program

My Abilities Program

The Vanguard Academy’s MAP Program offers greater flexibility in students’ programs, while focusing on two key areas: 1) strengths that would lead to continued education and/or employable skills and 2) areas for improvement that would further enhance students’ strengths.

Our teams of teachers collaborate with parents and guardians and the community to align Individualized Education and Transition Programs, to discover and develop their students’ strengths and interests, and to plan for on-going and long-term increased opportunities for participation in continued education, gainful employment, and/or independent living skills.

The MAP curriculum is based on The Vanguard Academy’s Preschool to Grade 10 curriculum and our prescribed functional and community education curriculum. Each student’s curriculum is modified as needed to ensure it is appropriately challenging, relevant, meaningful, and engaging.

Because our teams of teachers are highly skilled and trained in identifying and removing barriers to learning, all students enrolled in Transcend have the least restrictive participation in the school’s curriculum and programs. Depending on one’s strengths and needs, students’ programs may include different levels of part-time participation in the Preschool to Grade 10 Program and Allied Health and Related Services Program.
