The Vanguard Academy Participates in the 2nd Online National Environmental Science Quiz
Posted on March 20, 2023 by Vanguard Administrator
Makati City, Philippines – The Vanguard Academy presented its annual art exhibit by students of all abilities, Bukod-Tangi, at LRI Design Plaza last March 20 – 25, 2023. Bukod-Tangi, translated from Filipino to English, means unique or one of a kind. The Opening Ceremony on March 20 was graced upon by parent speakers, Kim Ng and Connie Lopez, who shared why the event and the school are bukod - tangi. The event capped off with the Academy of Rock, the school’s band, performing iconic Filipino songs.
With 332 original artworks, including 226 acrylic on canvas paintings, 30 photographs, and 76 of digital art, Bukod-Tangi raised Php450,000 for Bahay Aruga, the exhibition’s sole beneficiary. The school expresses its appreciation to all who purchased one or more art pieces during the exhibition to support Bahay Aruga - A Free Halfway House for Pediatric Cancer Patients, Inc. Bahay Aruga provides free shelter for pediatric cancer patients and parents of Philippine General Hospital. This service is of tremendous help, as these patients travel from remote parts of the Philippines, since the health care facilities in their provinces are not fully equipped for the treatments they require. By having this shelter available, the patients and their parents can focus on their treatment and well-being, without the worry of expenses for travel to and from their provinces and finding affordable accommodations while in Manila. The Php450,000 raised for Bahay Aruga will be allocated for the cancer patients’ medications, blood transfusions, and laboratory tests, such as MRIs and CT Scans. The Vanguard Academy and Bahay Aruga will develop their relationship in the coming school year through fun social and outreach activities that will bring the two communities together. The Vanguard Academy also wishes to thank LRI Design Plaza for graciously hosting the art exhibition. Their exhibition space provided a wonderful venue for all visitors and art enthusiasts to enjoy and appreciate the students’ creativity and self-expression.
The Vanguard Academy's official band, known as the Academy of Rock, was formed in 2021. This 14-piece band includes various musical groups: marching band, rock band, small ensembles, and vocalists. Members are Vanguards of all abilities and ages, creating quality music together, developing a lifelong appreciation for the arts, and making great friends along the way. The school band serves as a platform where students strive toward excellence through respect for the arts, integrity in music-making, and the courage to collaborate, all grounded in the humility to succeed.
Bukod-Tangi, led by Adel Roxas, one of the school’s Head Teachers, was a complete team effort from all members of the school community, including teachers, therapists, learning support assistants, administrators, and maintenance staff. Together they achieved their art exhibition goals to bring to light their students’ creativity and raw talent and to raise sufficient funds to support Bahay Aruga. As one exhibit visitor commented, “Congratulations! Thank you for the innovative ways to tap the children’s potential!” Indeed, congratulations to all the students and teachers for their excellent 2nd art exhibition! They are truly bukod-tangi!
